On the Green

On the Green
It has been confirmed, Clair Duke will be skipping a team in the August ‘Invitation Triples' in place of Katrina Wright.

Katrina was to have skipped the team of Kelsey Cottrell and Melanie McCauley, however as winner of the Australian Open played recently, she is required to compete in Scotland at the same time as Double Bay event.

Clair, who hales from Victoria, is now a member of St. Johns Park in Sydney. Her victories and triumphs in lawn bowling as a singles and team player are very impressive and Double Bay looks forward to hosting yet another star bowler.

See the latest On the Green to be issued next week for an update on progress towards the big Double Bay tournament.

Remember also the newsletter can be downloaded from the D.B.B.C. website.

DOUBLE BAY LADIES BOWLING CLUB

Double Bay hosted the final for this year’s district final, as both finalists were Double Bay members.

Barbara Shotland defeated Lorraine Mclaughlin in what started off as a very close game, with the early scores at 7 all then 9 - 10.

However, once Barbara pulled away, there was no holding back, although Lorraine had many close bowls, it was not enough to raise the tally.

The game finished at 34 - 14.

Barbara will now go to the next level, the St. George Canterbury group playoff, to be conducted over 17-18 July.

Well done to both ladies.

CONGRATULATIONS DOUBLE BAY PENNANTS NO. 2's.

The No 2's played the group playoff at Francis Drake Bowling Club Wednesday & Thursday.

Both teams in the side had 4 total rink wins, which gives them an outright win in the round robin and a place in the State Playoff.

The playoff will take place in Tamworth commencing Monday 21st July.

Congratulations to all Double Bay players for this magnificent effort.

Invitation Triples August 30-31.

Organisers are pleased with the response to invitations which were posted late Feb.,   Although the closing date is end of April,  the competition is now completely full.

The field this year is definitely the strongest since the introduction of the inaugural Invitation Triples in 2003.

The highlight of the tournament will be the appearance of Kelsey Cottrell who's team will include Melanie McCauley and Katrina Wright.   All these young ladies are stars in their own right, representing N.S.W., Qld., and Australia.

As well as these three major star  players, the majority of entrants are N.S.W. representatives and all players hold major bowling titles in both their groups and N.S.W. State events.

The generous prize money of $8000 through sponsors, Arthur Bailey Surgico P/L., Double Bay Bowling Club in conjunction with Bradfield & Prichard Real Estate, and Double Bay Women's Bowling Club,  ensures a very exciting tournament.

The major raffle for the Invitation Triples will be a terrific package consisting of :- 1 set coloured Taylor Bowls, 1 x Comfitpro bowls bag with wheels and 1x pair of Comfitpro shoes.   Tickets for this raffle will start selling shortly.

Keep informed of progress through this 'On the Green'  web page and also through the printed version of 'On the Green' which is now incorporated with the men's 'Bay Watch' newsletter produced and edited by Mike Golland.
