Merger with Rose Bay BC

Rose Bay Bowling Club closed its doors on October 5, 2000, to merge with Double Bay Bowling Club.

Founded in 1923, Rose Bay BC merged with Dover Heights BC in 1991. In 1998 Rose Bay BC and Waverley BC signed an agreement to merge, but this was later cancelled when the sale of the Rose Bay property was held up through Woollahra Council’s rejection of a developers bid to have the land returned to residential zoning.

The Rose Bay BC land was sold to Cranbrook School for $7 million, with $3 million payment on settlement in September 2000 and $1 million annually for the following four years.

On October 5, 2000, the membership of the two clubs met officially for the first time at a dinner at the Double Bay Club, then, on October 7 the first “meeting” of the Rose Bay and Double Bay players took place on the Double Bay greens.

At that time the Rose Bay BC membership was 169, with 48 being women (and 19 social members). The Double Bay BC membership was 160, with 48 being women.
